Belize - Ambergris Caye

We originally planned to split our time in the north of Belize between the 2 main Cayes. However after hearing many reports that Caye Caulker was the better of the two we was in no rush to move on from Caye Caulker. After extending our stay at Caye Caulker from 3 to 6 days, we decided to spend just 1 or 2 days at the second Caye - Ambergris as this was on a path North anyway. Caye Ambergris has around 8000 people, thats x4 more than Caulker. We have swapped our chilled out, sand roads, golf buggies, paradise island of Caulker for the hectic, tarmacked vehicle roads of Ambergris. Both islands are very nice and Caye Ambergris has one thing in its favour and that is it has some nicer beaches than Caye Caulker apart from that Caye Caulker wins my vote.

We ended up staying two nights on the island and spent the days lazing on the beaches and exploring the town. From here we took a 85 km boat ride to Mexico where our adventures continue in our next blog entry.
