Honduras - Lago Yojoa and the d'n'd brewery

We left Leon which is in the middle of the west side of Nicaragua early in the morning. Heading North from Leon, their was nothing we wanted to see in Central America until the North of Honduras, so we knew we had around 2 full days travelling ahead of us. The first day we took 3 chicken buses and spent the night in Ocatal in Nicaragua just south of the Hondurus border. Ocatal was quite pleasant, we had a nice stroll in the evening. The next day we was up early again, crossed the border without any issues and took 5 more chicken buses and arrived at Lake Yojoa in the center of Honduras early in the afternoon.  Looking back the last 1.5 days were alot of fun, mixing with the locals, seeing no other tourists. I guess we could have done this trip alot easier, as many party hostals arange door to door shuttles which take around 14 hours. However it cost us around 10 dollars to do this trip in 1.5 days, was easy and alot of fun mixing with the locals compared to 100 dollars on a shuttle with everything arranged for you, travelling with the same people. For us  chicken buses all the time. A chicken bus is an old 80s USA or Canadian yellow school bus, which stops every few hundred meters to pick people up. They are never full even when we are 150 people on a 60 seat bus. Arriving at the DnD brewery early afternoon, this would be our home for the next 3 nights. Stunning scenary, local beer, lake, swimming pool this was time to plan our last 2 months.

Arriving at the DnD brewery i saw this camper, Giles and his wife from Australia was travelling from Alaska to Patagonia. As i was talking to Giles he seemed vaguely familiar. We talked again later about our jobs and it turned out we was in the same small group together that went to a corporate event some 11 years earlier from a supplier we both shared. Small world aint it, Giles from Australia , me from the Uk, both currently in Honduras and last time we met was in Germany.

The DnD brewery brewed i believe 6 of their own beers, some with an Apricot or Raspberry taste but all of which tasted very good. I did try them all many times over the next 3 days. The small brewery was in a couple of old shipping containers next to the small hotel. As well as brewing their own beers they had a nice selection of around 50 beers from other countries on offer.

There were many activities on offer at the Brewery, including many great hikes, waterfalls and trips on the lake. As we came here really to relax for a few days we did not do any of these strenuous activities. We did go tubing, sitting on an inflated large innertube floating down a fast flowing river, with small rapids for about 45 minutes. The river started 100 meters behind the hotel and finished at a large lake where we then went for a nice refreshing swim.
