Ecuador - Bańos

Bungee Jumping, Zip Lining, Class I-V white water rafting, Mountain Biking, Kayaking and Hiking Volcanoes makes Baños the adventure capital of Ecuador.A number of scenic thermal pools and spa's around the town all heating from the local active volcano (last eruption 2011) makes for a nice relaxîng evening after the days adrenaline fueled activities.

We had 4 days and 3 nights here in Baños where we hiked to waterfalls, hired mountain bikes, relaxed in the thermal pools, watched the football quarter finals and drank with our new friends in the bar street. Baños is a pretty little town clinging to a mountain edge situated between the Andes and the Amazon Rain Forest.  Many 1-4 day trips are available from Baños to  the secondary rain forest, which is basically the beginning of the Amazon rain forest without the wildlife and built for tourists. After some reading we decided we wanted more of an authentic experience, so we booked a stay at an ecolodge deep inside the Ecuadorian Amazon in the Cuyabeno Wildlife reserve, a good 18 hours away by bus and motorized canoe which we will write about in our next blog entry.

Lots of Thermally heated pools from the neighbouring volcano

Guinea Pig is eaten everywhere in the Andes

The local Bungee Jump bridge

Many local waterfalls reached by crossing the river by pully system

Another impressive waterfall
